Smart Connector hack | MacRumors Forums

My first gen iPad Pro’s Lightning port stopped working and I’m thinking of charging it via the Smart Connector. I’ve looked everywhere but haven’t been able to find which pin carries power and which are used for data.

On a Lightning cable, pin 5 carries power:

I’m hoping to splice an old Lightning cable, and charge the iPad by making contact with that wire on the appropriate pin on the iPad’s Smart Connector.

I’m aware that charging will be very slow but I want to prove the concept before going out and trying to buy a Logi Base, the only Smart Connector charger ever made. It’ll cost upwards of $100 so I’d like to ensure that it’ll work before spending that kind of cash.

Any DIY electricians/engineers here who can please head me in the right direction?
